How can I get my Domain name back?
Q. I bought some cheap domain names from a reseller and now, I think I've been scammed because they don't seem to function anymore. All my sites are down. This is very important to me. Can someone please help me with some advice? thanks.

A. Did the domain names come with web hosting? If you just bought domain names without hosting, then you wont see any pages, but you will 'own' the domain name - you can buy web hosting to make them work. If you bought web hosting with your domain names, then you need to speak to them. It maybe your webhost may have a short term temporary problem keeping your websites live.

What is the best method for selling a domain name?
Q. The domain names I have aren't that popular so I don't expect high 3-figures. Is selling through a reseller or auction site the best, or can selling it on my own work given the limited value of the domains? Thanks.

A. Given that your domain names are not high value I think you should not spend on auction sites. Go with the personal option.

A. In a (somewhat lengthy) nutshell: There are three entities relevant to the domain name, there's the registrant, the registrar, and the registry. The registry operates the database that stores all of the domain names and their server information. This information is pushed out to root zone servers so that the domain names can resolve. For .com and .net, the Registry is VeriSign, Inc. You can see who the registries for all the different types of domain names are at The organization that decides who gets to operate the registries is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The registrar is the company that registers the domain name in the registry database. Melbourne It and Network Solutions (as well as… [cont.]

A. I'm not sure that it is a business. I think if you have a domain name server you can register domains. It is more of a standard than a business. I found this: That organisation oversees domain names but isn't a business but a non-profit organisation.

A. Hi, I have a reseller account with hostgator. I don't have a website ,yet. I started after having a shared account with unlimited domains, after few years they have start to complain, because the websites were been transferred to other people so manly 80% of the websites was not owned from me. Anyway now i have a reseller account with them, and works great. When i sell a website if the client choose to host with me directly, I just past his information in the web host management system, of my reseller account, to set is easy they also have videos and the online chat is great for quick answers. About how to accept the payments, they have a system which make you automatically every month or depending how often the client decided to pay… [cont.]

Does Domain Redirecting Effect Google SEO?
Q. My Website is split up between Domains. I have a reseller account set up, but I wanted a customizable front so I created a web host to accommodate. I want both the Web hosting Domain and the Reseller Store with one Domain name. People say it is bad to do Domain Masking, because of Double content from both sites. Can I set up the robot.txt to all access on my main domain and then set it to no access on the other domain?

A. 1and1.com is very popular and very affordable. You have to pay for any extra services and the site can be slow at times, but if you are looking to get in the door and save some money, it is hard to beat.

Questions about reseller web hosting?
Q. I'm thinking of doing reseller web hosting, perhaps with HostGator. I understand that I pay a monthly fee for my account, and keep 100% of the profits made. So, does this mean I don't need any fancy equipment? Can I easily manage customer accounts and create domain names? Also, what should I do for customer support? I can do it via e-mail, but I won't be available 24/7.

A. Hello There! A reseller hosting account is just that; space on a web server to create accounts. You won't be able to create domains with it, for that you'd need to have a domain reseller account, such as enom.com. You will be able to manage your accounts by your "WHM" or web hosting manager... For support, you can do it by email, if your just starting you can have the emails forward to your phone and have a response time when you see them. I have a reseller account at hostfever.com, and love it. They helped me set up my site the whole way through... They will also get you hooked up with a complete billing system. You can order their reseller plans at and use coupon code: 20OFF09 to get 20% off your first order. Hoped this helped. (BTW… [cont.]

Which domain registrars offer domains with a private whois service?
Q. I am looking to register a .org domain name, but do not which to have my address publicly available. I do not wish to register with GoDaddy due to issues with them in the past, and the $35+$10 Register.com asks for is a rip-off in my opinion. I would prefer to register through a ICANN accredited registrar rather than through a reseller.

A. Namecheap currently offers free WHOIS privacy with a domain name, though they're currently a reseller. Registerfly's a registrar and offering the same promo, though many have reported problems with them. Check out others like dotster. But be ready to fork extra.

How do you as a web designer host your clients' websites?
Q. I was wondering how the web designers here host their clients websites and/or sell them domain names. Do you buy one shared hosting account and put them all there or do you give them their own separate accounts as a reseller? Or do you just tell them to go buy hosting somewhere? I'd really appreciate as many answers as possible?

A. I agree, I personally LOVE HostGator!. But, I would recommend going through a site like just to pick up the freebies and giveaways they offer... but pick hostgator when you do. You won't regret it. They are an experienced company and I've never had any downtime with my sites.
